Raptors looking to move into the playoffs firing on all cylinders
Abril, 2016.- With the 2016 NBA playoffs just around the corner, the Toronto Raptors are guaranteed a playoff berth currently (as of March 22) just sitting 1.5 games behind the Cavaliers. Both the Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors have already clinched their spots, March 18 and February 27 respectively both early clinches, a first for the western division. Toronto’s 21 year history has seen 8 playoff appearances with only one going beyond the first round, so this year seems more promising taking into consideration a more cohesive talented team that can carry them through in the playoffs.
With just a dozen games left to their regular season with 8 away games and just 4 remaining at home games the Raptors success will have to be channelled through their deep talented backcourt hoping that DeRozan and Lowry can pull in the heavy guns firing on all cylinders with their impressive 40 -60 combined points they have been delivering each game night, and the defensive in Biyombo, Scola and Valanciunas.
We can think that finishing in a much better seat for the playoffs can guarantee the Raptor’s a higher chance to advance past the second round which historically has been every raptor’s fan end of the road too familiar scenario. Without sounding pessimistic only considering the stats and player deliverance in the two teams already in the playoff like the Cavs and Warriors an NBA title might still not be in the near future but definitely and eastern conference title will sure be nice in the 6 and well received by Toronto fans.
The boys of summer ready to swing the bats at Rogers Centre
The boys of summer ready for their season opener on April 4 in Tampa bay against the Rays while their home opener at Rogers Centre will be Friday April 8 against the Red Sox. The 2016 season will bring back the majority of the roster which took the American East league division title last September 30. The Blue Jays spring training was filled with the headlines about Buatista’s salary contract deals and the pending negotiations for re-signing Encarnación, but besides these distractions the team should be ready for the regular season.
The Jays spring training in the Grapefruit league currently has them with 12 wins and 4 losses, spring training gives the coaching staff the ability to refine and solidify the rosters and starting hitting rotation lineup. With 11 players of the 13 championship squad returning we are guaranteed the same hitting power at bat and defensive plays we delightedly witnessed in the 2015 season. The bull pen for me is where the Jays will have to be clever and use their young talent to guarantee a successful run to the playoffs, last year’s distress and depthless due to injuries in the bullpen is what derailed the course to the World Series.
