TFC ready for 2017 season
TFC is poised to get back on the podium for this upcoming season by boosting their midfield and strengthening their defence with newly acquired players. Just this past February it was announced that former Barcelona player Victor Vazquez a midfielder was acquired by TFC from Cruz Azul where he had been playing the last year. Vazquez who is in his 30s is considered a veteran of the game but just what TFC is looking for, a seasoned player that can create and bring experience to the field. He came through the rank of the Barcelona youth soccer academy and played with the teams reserve and senior team during the 2008-2009 Champions League. TFC is hoping Vazquez can produce as he did in the Belgian league and support an already deep midfield with Bradley, Osorio and Cooper.
On the defensive side with the departures of Johnson, Bloom and Josh Williams TFC needed to bolster their defence and did so with the 2 year contract of fullback Chris Mavinga in Late January. Mavinga has played in various clubs in Europe and Asia has been on loan for the last 2 season in French 2nd division league teams with Troyes and Stade Reims. TFC expects Mavinga to provide sheer physical presence at the back supported with experience. He can play both centre back and left full back giving more options on the set pattern of play for the team in their desired 3-5-2 formation.
